Meghan Swaby is a Jamaican-Canadian actor, playwright based in Toronto. She works across stage, screen and voice.
On stage, she has performed across Canada, the US, Mexico and the UK. Favourite credits include Table for Two (Soulpepper/Obsidian), Interior Design (Tarragon Theatre) Prodigal (Howland Company/Crow's Theatre), Controlled Damage (Neptune/b current) and All Our Happy Days Are Stupid (Harbourfront/The Kitchen, NYC). On screen: Adults (FX) Accused (Fox), Brilliant Minds (NBC), Ghostwriter (Apple TV+) and Odd Squad Mobile Unit (PBS). Her voice brings characters to life in Let's Go Bananas (CBC Kids), Phoebe & Jay (PBS Kids), Kiya and the Kimoja Heroes (Disney Jr) and Pinkalicious & Peterrific (PBS Kids).
Her play Venus' Daughter was published by Scirocco Drama in 2022 and named one of the top 23 recommended plays in Canada by the Playwrights Guild of Canada. Her work has been performed internationally, including at the inaugural 50in50: Writing Black Women Into Existence at the Billie Holiday Theatre in Brooklyn, NY. Her commission, Derailed: The History of Black Railway Porters in Canada, produced by Museum of Toronto, won the 2022 Heritage Toronto Public History Award. She has developed work at residencies including the Stratford Festival, Playwrights Workshop Montreal, Nightwood Theatre and Obsidian Theatre.
Meghan co-host and produced Beneath the Ceiba Tree, a podcast about Caribbean folklore through a contemporary diasporic lens.
She is an alumna of the Reelworld e20 program and BIPOC TV & Film's Kids Television Incubator
